May 13, 2013: 01 Freedom Girls Wrap Up a Successful 2012-13 Season
01 Freedom wrapped up its 2012-13 season this past weekend, losing its final match to the champions of the U12 Girls Open East Division... sister team 00 TFC Freedom. Over the course of the season, the girls focused on development of their skills to become one of the top U11 Classic teams in the state of North Carolina. After winning the fall NCYSA U11G Open East Championship, the team moved to the much more difficult U12 Girls Open East. The competition for the spring was bigger, faster and more skilled than the fall season, and this only helped to make this group even better as they take a much needed summer rest to get focused and ready for next season.
During this season, 01 Freedom won three tournament championships: Twin City Classic, Columbus Day Classic, and Coast Spring Classic. We endured the heat of August and September, the cold of January and February, and the rainy spring. Through it all, the girls came to practice hard and play even harder. The wins came not because we focused on winning, but because we focused on developing skillful players who could play many positions in any match. In most matches, those skills were evident to anyone watching. I received great comments from opposing coaches, other teams’ parents, and even referees.
A special thanks to all the parents for committing your time to the support of your daughters' pursuit of soccer excellence. I know how much the girls love to play this game, but I also know how much time, effort, and investment it takes on the part of the parents. 01 Freedom has been blessed to have a great combination of top coaches, terrific players, and fantastic parents. It takes all three of these to build a great team.
We will all miss our coach, Peter Rieth, next season. He has been a tremendous coach and mentor to the girls over the past three seasons. I wish him well as he ventures into retirement, but I’m sure the girls will always remember this time as special in their lives. And I am sure they will continue to make him proud whenever he comes to watch them play.
Congratulations to all the girls on a tremendous season! I look forward to seeing you all on the field next season. Go TFC!!
Your Team Manager,
Mark
